JULY 1, 2017
Hello to the friends of The Jazz Sanctuary,
It’s been quite a month and I for one am looking forward to a quiet July 4th weekend. June ended with The Jazz Sanctuary, under the leadership of Leon Jordan Sr. holding a Bucket Drumming session at the Council for Brain Injury. WHAT A SUCCESS! The attendees were very happy and anyone could see that each had a great gain, practicing the bucket drumming for two hours with Leon giving them instructions and praise for their work. Randy Sutin and I were there too, playing our instruments and after Leon prodded us, becoming part of the class too.
For me it was a wonderful experience which was also a bitter sweet one. I too had a brain injury and I could relate to the folks who attended the class. I am one of the luckiest people on earth having recovered about 85 – 90 % of my physical being and watching the participants almost brought me to tears several times. The happiest moment and the one that “brought me to me knees” occurred at the end of the session. One of the audience, who was in a wheel chair and could hardly speak, came to where I had my bass and asked how he could make a donation to The Jazz Sanctuary! He wanted to help us. Imagine that if you will.
Being a human being and worrying about and doing something (anything) to help those less fortunate is a wonderful trait to have and aspire to. Being one of those unfortunate beings suffering from what appeared to be a very severe brain injury (this gentlemen was in a wheel chair, wore a safety belt to stay in his wheel chair and was unable to speak very clearly) and wanting to help the Jazz Sanctuary continue its work, well, I will admit that when I finally sat in my car I cried. I cried tears of relief at being near whole and I cried for those who were suffering some ailment and I cried for seeing and meeting a genuine human being who cared for those around him as well as himself.
Wasn’t I fortunate for meeting him? Absolutely. Absolutely.
I could be happier but not in regards to The Jazz Sanctuary. Our fund raising was and is a GREAT SUCCESS!
Statistics tell the tale:
Please see our Donor List page and see for yourself what a brilliant job you have done!
Are we finished? Done? No more contributions? I hope not! In the following days I expect more checks to come in so that we can continue and expand our work.
There is simply no way of my saying thank you, except to say thank you and play music for you with the greatest group of talented musicians that make up The Jazz Sanctuary – my thanks to them too (of course).
Thank you and thank you again for all your help.
What’s holding us back from holding even more events? Funding, it’s really that simple. If you know of a potential sponsor, please let me know and of course your contributions are so important to us – representing 42% of our funding. I know that your contribution will be mailed to us and we can include your name in our list of donors.
Meanwhile, back at the home base The Jazz Sanctuary is receiving contributions on almost a daily basis, for sure on a weekly basis. THANK YOU AND THANK YOU AGAIN AND AGAIN.
My hope and wish is that you take advantage of the events and visit with us in 2017 which promises to be a wonderful year filled with music!
By the end of July we will have appeared at 374 events since inception.
There is no complaining about that total, is there!
That wonderful accomplishment has only been reached with the help of our sponsors, your contributions and of course you our wonderful audience!
Thanks and more thanks for all your help!

I find it incumbent of me to make a plea for a donation. We simply cannot exist if our program is not supported. Some 40% of our funding comes from you, our wonderful audience. We are making our plans for a brilliant 2017 and I make this request so that we can fund the remainder of events scheduled for 2017.
If you haven’t signed up for the once monthly email, please do!
Thank you seems inadequate nonetheless “thanks to each and every person who made a contribution thus far.
Listen to some music, celebrate life and visit with us at a Jazz & Joe event
Don’t forget to use our sponsors – without them (and you of course!) we wouldn’t be swinging along.
I look forward to hearing from you (email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org).
