September 1, 2017
Hello to the friends of The Jazz Sanctuary,
HARVEY! An extraordinarily horrible event. I can’t even begin to imagine the amount of wind and rain and rain and some more rain. My sympathy and prayers to all the folks hurt by this terrible storm. I am terribly sorry for the loss of property. I grieve for the loss of life.
I am proud of the heroism of each responder and the heart of the public!
The Jazz Sanctuary has a busy month ahead of us and that after a two month layoff. I don’t think I want to do that again, not play with our group for two months. I haven’t lost my “chops” (or at least I don’t think so, after all I did practice), although there is nothing, but nothing like playing with a group. Next year I will attempt to book events in July and August that I promise.
As can be seen in the listing of our music events we have five Jazz & Joe events and three “Special Events”, it’s going to be a busy and glorious month.
July and August were busy setting up the fall schedule and meeting with Priests or parish members in setting up these events. September 28th is the last event which The Rev. Joy Segal (my wife) will be in attendance for a Jazz & Joe – she’s retiring. That brings me to why I’m so busy these days. She and I are packing, getting ready to move. Moving means that the postal address for The Jazz Sanctuary will be changing. Watch for future announcements concerning where to send your donations. The Jazz Sanctuary email address will not change, nor will mine.
Please see the music events page for the September events. The event on Sept. 28th, being special, we plan on having a celebration of music for Joy’s final event. Stop in, this promises to be a wonderful evening with many, many musicians.
In the believe it or not category we have 21 events booked for 2018! That is wonderful, isn’t it? It looks like we’ll finish 2017 with 53 events. None of this would be possible without you, our wonderful audience.
Well, I’m going back to packing. I’m sure I’ll see you soon.
Our fund raising was, is and will continue to be a GREAT SUCCESS!
Statistics tell the tale:
Please see our Donor List page and see for yourself what a brilliant job you have done!
Are we finished? Done? No more contributions? I hope not! In the following days and weeks I expect more checks to come in so that we can continue and expand our mission.
There is simply no way of my saying thank you, except to say thank you and play music for you with the greatest group of talented musicians that make up The Jazz Sanctuary – my thanks to them too (of course).
Thank you and thank you again for all your help.
What’s holding us back from holding even more events? Funding, it’s really that simple. If you know of a potential sponsor, please let me know and of course your contributions are so important to us – representing 42% of our funding. I know that your contribution will be mailed to us and we can include your name in our list of donors.
Meanwhile, back at the home base The Jazz Sanctuary is receiving contributions on almost a daily basis, for sure on a weekly basis. THANK YOU AND THANK YOU AGAIN AND AGAIN.
My hope and wish is that you take advantage of the events and visit with us in 2017 which promises to be a wonderful year filled with music!
By the end of August we will have appeared at 376 events since inception.
Attendance for the year to date (8/31/17) 1,900
There is no complaining about those totals, is there!
That wonderful accomplishment has only been reached with the help of our sponsors, your contributions and of course you our wonderful audience!
Thanks and more thanks for all your help!

I find it incumbent of me to make a plea for a donation. We simply cannot exist if our program is not supported. Some 40% of our funding comes from you, our wonderful audience. We are making our plans for a brilliant 2017 and I make this request so that we can fund the remainder of events scheduled for 2017.
If you haven’t signed up for the once monthly email, please do!
Thank you seems inadequate nonetheless “thanks to each and every person who made a contribution thus far.
Listen to some music, celebrate life and visit with us at a Jazz & Joe event
Don’t forget to use our sponsors – without them (and you of course!) we wouldn’t be swinging along.
I look forward to hearing from you (email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org).
