David Hartl is known as a master of many styles and instruments. His career has included performances on piano and synthesizer with hundreds of popular artists including Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, Smokey Robinson, Peabo Bryson, Il Divo, Andrea Bocelli, The Three Degrees, The Supremes, and many more; over two decades on the faculty of the University of the Arts; over 60 musical theater productions; jazz performances with artists including Jimmy Bruno, Phil Woods, and many others; and thousands of performances on piano, synthesizers, accordion, guitar, and Chapman Stick. He has released 11 albums, the latest being a suite of Fender Rhodes improvisations, following an electronic realization using accordion and synths of “5 Tango Sensations” by Astor Piazzolla, and is currently working with The Divine Hand Ensemble, following up an album of Piazzolla tangos with a double album of Frank Zappa compositions.
In addition to playing local gigs as a solo pianist, current projects include arranging for and performing on accordion, piano, and synthesizers with jazz chanteuse Paula Johns, tribute band The Ronstadt Revue, modern classical group The Divine Hand Ensemble, and gypsy jazz group The Hot Club of Philadelphia as well as holding down the piano/celeste chair for the Southeast Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra and Northeast Pennsylvania Philharmonic.
