TAI CHI INSTRUCTION
Alan Segal: As part of my rehabilitation efforts from a brain avm I began the study of Tai Chi under the tutalege of Dr. Barry Silverman. Throughout this course of instruction over the last three years (which continues today and for the foreseeable future) I have regained most of my balance. It has also helped with my hand/eye co-ordination. After The Jazz Sanctuary won a grant in 2017 I began a conversation with both CoBi and Dr. Silverman to introduce Tai Chi to those wonderful people involved with Re-Med. We won a grant in 2018 a portion of which has been allocated to Dr. Silverman through the auspices of The Jazz Sanctuary. Although Tai Chi is not Jazz, it is a meditative and physical use of our mind and bodies to help make us move and think in a knowing manner – much like the playing of jazz affects us as musicians. To that end I have the confidence to believe that the teaching of Dr. Silverman will be of great benefit to the folks at Re-Med.
