Jared L. Alston began playing piano since the age of 5 and is a Gospel and Jazz native of Philadelphia. He is said to be the “next big jazz player” by notable jazz drummer, Bruce Klauber. He began most of his musical development in his father’s church. Currently, Jared is a student a Temple University studying jazz performance with a concentration in piano. There, he is currently involved in three different small ensembles. Outside of school, he is the minister of music at Harvest Community Baptist Church, and main pianist in the Bravo Jazz group in which they play various musical engagements in and around Philadelphia. Furthermore, Jared is also the pianist in the group, Waverly Alston in the Co. of Friends, who just recently appeared in Philadelphia Jazz Project’s annual Frosty Holiday Show. We can expect to see many big things from this young musician in a few years to come. Until this time arrives, he will continue to live by his mother’s philosophy, “Good better best never let it rest. Until your good is better, and your better is best”.
